| So if you guys play your cards right... you can have the chatbox back all the time starting in the fall. 
There's just one thing we need you guys to work on. Back when we had the chatbox, there was a lot of bullying that went on because of people's interests and / or celebrity crushes.
There were two different kinds of things going on... sometimes people would get bullied because they didn't like something that the first person did like. The currently most relevant example is the Jonas Brothers, but there were other things in the past too. And then the other kind of bullying was people fighting over the same celebrity crush... saying very mean things because they were the only person who is allowed to like a certain celebrity. This kind of thing happens a lot less, and I'm not talking about the normal joking around that happens, I'm talking about really hurting people's feelings to the point where they want to stop coming here.
So here is the deal... if you guys can stop that kind of bullying, then we will put the chatbox back in all the time starting in September. From now until then you might see the chatbox open without an Admin or Mod present every so often... just to see how things go.

| bryan... if i can make a suggestion... why don't you create a form of "chatbox mod", they could keep an eye on things in the chatbox when you or the other mods aren't online...

| Well, there are the "Chit Chat Mods" of the white-colored-names... they just don't have any moderation powers (for a number of reasons). But they can always PM Becca or I if something weird goes down when they are there.
But the point is people who live in other places where the time zones mean that one of our many staff members aren't around can still have fun in the chatbox. Even with the fairly large staff that we have now, we can't have someone there 24 hrs a day.

| that's kinda what I was suggesting...why don't you pick one non-mod from each general region and give them power over the chatbox and get them to keep an eye on things when there isn't a regular mod around...

| Mostly because there isn't enough ppl "in every region" that we trust enough to give moderation powers (which includes everything from clearing the archives to banning ppl from the chatbox and a whole bunch of other stuff in between) that it's not practical to do something like that.
Besides, 99% of the time, the chatbox doesn't need a babysitter. It was just while we were short-staffed and while several mods are away during the summer that we implemented the whole "only open the chatbox when it can be moderated" plan.
Thank you for your suggestion, Matt. But it's just not that easy.
